Issue Tracking System

General Task Structure

Every project can broken down into three steps:

  1. Preparation e.g. raw providing, recruiting
  2. Processing e.g. translating, cleaning, typesetting
  3. Finishing e.g. quality checking, distribution

Example

Tim is the leader of a Naruto scanlation group.

The newest raw from Naruto was released recently and he starts to inform his team mates.

He informs

  1. translator Hiko who converts the text to English
  2. proofreader James who will go through Hiko's translation
  3. editor Adam who's going to clean the pages
  4. typesetter Kaine1207 .

Tim, who coordinates all tasks by himself, made a mistake in the email address and the last two members have not received his emails.
Hiko still attends university and can't come to IRC. The only member who read the email was proofreader James, who can't start to work without Hiko's translation.

The result: In the end the whole team had to delay their Naruto release for 2 days. That's one day later than all other groups.

If you want to prevent activity holes it is important to coordinate team activities without relying on instant messangers like MSN, Bulletin Boards or IRC which require you to stay online in order to meet your colleagues. By using ROME's Issue Tracking System you can easily create new tasks, assign new members and write status updates in real-time even while your members are offline. As soon as they log into their personal page, they will be updated about all group activities and can start to work instantly!

Issue Categories

Different issues (tasks) can be seperated by creating issue categories. For example you can create categories for different series like "Naruto", "Bleach" or for different production steps like "Translation", "Proofreading", "Editing". It's all up to you how you organize your tasks!

Target Version

Version targeting gives you the ability to assign issues, files and documents to one manga series or volume.
For example you can create a version called "Naruto Volume 14" and assign all translations, files and issues(tasks) to it, which are only related to volume 14. This makes it possible to work on different volumes and series simulatounsly without confusing the issues and files. The number of solved and unsolved issues for a specific version is shown on the road-map which summerize all data in one global progess bar.
